THE HALLMARKS OF A GREAT ROLLER SKATER GIFT:
BRIGHT COLORS
The roller skater “style” is all about bright, bold colors. We love anything that’ll glow under a black light at the roller rink on Saturday night (like neon colors). Give us accessories & clothing that’ll glow & you’ve got a great gift.
RETRO STYLE
Roller skaters love anything that harkens back to the heyday of roller skating (the 70’s & 80’s…which is our youth in many cases). Think knee high socks, gummy bracelets & neon colors.
SPARKLE
We love items that sparkle, sequins or have glitter in them. We try to stand out & be different from everyone else and a little bit of sparkle certainly helps.
Don’t worry, we have lots of ideas that hit on all of these halmarks so you’re not going to have to try and figure this out on your own.
So let’s get to it…below is just a quick preview of some of our list. Don’t let its small size fool you – the JBL Clip 4 is a powerful Bluetooth speaker that’s perfect for the roller skater on the go. It can be clipped to a fanny pack, back pack or belt loop to listen to tunes while still being able to hear what’s happening in the world around you (which is the safest way to go).
This little dynamo delivers up to 10 hours of playback, making it ideal for, outdoor skating adventures along the boardwalk, or simply kicking back at home. The Clip 4 also features noise-cancelling technology, so you can take calls or listen to music without interruption. Plus, with its tough waterproof construction and portable design, the Clip 3 is perfect for any environment. With over 17,000 4-5 star reviews and many colors and you’re bound to find the perfect one for your roller skater.
Roller skaters really love to film tricks with our smart phones. It helps us see what were doing wrong, make small corrections…and when we finally get it right it’s pretty cool to be able to share that video with others.
The Pivo Smartphone Video Tracker is like having your own personal cameraman in your back pocket. Simply attach your smartphone to the Pivo base, pair via Bluetooth, and like magic your smartphone camera will track every skate move. Pivo auto zooms in and out and has body or face tracking.
It’s the perfect gift for skaters who are in the learning phase or the pro who likes to share their skate moves on youtube and social media. It’s a cheaper alternative to the GoPRO which is also on our list. We also recommend grabbing the inexpensive Pivo protective case so the components don’t get damaged rolling around in a skate bag.
If you’re not a roller skater you may have a puzzled look on your face after seeing the above image. These are “roller skate wings” and they lace into your roller skate boots near the top of the boot to look like you have wings on your roller skates. It kind of makes me think of the Goodyear flying foot logo. They were really popular in the 1970’s roller disco scene but now they’re making a comeback. You can find them in a variety of colors and styles…from the simple wing, sinister bat wings, fanning flames and a lightning bolt. You’ll only need 1 pair per skater and at this price point its a great budget gift for roller skaters.
Your eyes do not deceive you…these are roller skate wheels that light up! These LED packed roller skate wheels are all the rage right now at the local skating rink (where it’s kind of dark & they can be fully appreciated). The Luminous LED 85a is is the set that I put on when I’m at the rink and they glow like crazy when the wheels are in motion. So if your giftee likes to skate at night or hit the roller rink on the regular this makes for a thoughtful yet inexpensive gift for roller skaters.
If you want to do a deep dive into The BEST Light Up Roller Skate Wheels you might want to check out MY REVIEW POST. I go in depth on the highest quality light up wheels in every budget for indoor and outdoor skating.
Ah yes…everything that is old becomes new again. That’s true of these retro late 70’s and early 80’s bold knee high socks and many other things but I digress. You’re probably not up to date on the latest in roller skating accessories but I can tell you that these socks are what all the ride or die skater girls are wearing these days. If these seem a little bright you can check out these muted pastel knee high socks as an alternative. This is another cheap gift for roller skaters if you’re on a budget.
Showing up to the rink with a killer, head turning skating outfit (yes Virginia, there is such a thing) is a fantastic roller skater gift. I’ve devoted an entire article on the subject in fact. There you’ll find fully curated ensembles from yours truly. If you want me to widdle it down to one item for ease…it HAS to be one of these colorful 1970’s rompers pictured above. With 18 colors available you’re bound to find something eye popping! Don’t forget the Rainbow Knee High Socks!
Here’s another affordable gift suggestion for roller skaters! These cute, daisy roller skate brakes are eye catching and on trend with all the retro vibes I’m seeing in the skate world. Roller skate brakes tend to wear out fast (I go through a few every year with so much outdoor skating). Any roller skaters would surely value an adorable and colorful set of replacement brakes. These make great stocking stuffers for Christmas. These replacement brakes are also reasonably priced, leaving you with the option to pair them with cute, matching laces or toe caps also found on the list.
This Betsey Johnson Rainbow Roller Derby Purse is absolutely KILLER! Any skater girl would LOVE to get this as a gift and wear it cross body to the roller rink on Saturday night. I always get tons of compliments and “where did you buy that!?!?” questions from fellow skater girls when I wear mine out to the rink or to skating events.
This is a fun and simple gift idea for a skater who loves lighting up the roller skating rink. These roller skate lights can be attached to the plate of any roller skate and put on a light show that rotates 16 different colors via remote (batteries included). This gift is super budget friendly so it can make a nice stocking stuffer.
Wireless Apple Airpods are high on our list because we HATE cords getting in the way while we’re out roller skating at the skating rink or practicing new tricks at the skate park. This is a gift skaters can use EVERY time they skate & for that reason alone we think it’s one of the best gifts for roller skaters out there! We are all Wireless Apple Airpods users here at boardwalkskater.com because the sound quality is unparalleled, cords DON’T get in the way & and the compact size of the charging case means they won’t take up much space in our fanny packs.
This Incognito Heated Puffer Vest is perfect for those cold winter days skating outdoors. This USB rechargeable vest provides up to 8 hours of warmth with 5 different heating zones. You can also purchase additional batteries for this vest to keep the warmth going for longer. All the kids are wearing puffers so this look is totally on trend.
I have one of these for the winters up here in the Pacific northwest and I use it for more than just outdoor roller skating. I take it with me skiing, I put it on while watching outdoor football games…I wear it for any lengthy outdoor activity. You can be confident it will get a lot of winter use for not just for roller skating.
If you’re looking for a more meaningful roller skater gift then look into silver skate charms, bracelets and necklaces. They are surprisingly affordable even in real deal silver. You can find something understated or outright bling-bling. They make great gifts for loved ones & close relatives. Check out the entire Skate Charm Collection HERE.
The bold and colorful roller skate bag had my heart a flutter from the moment I saw it! To the unfamiliar this bag will carefully hold a pair of roller skates in a protective cover as you transport them to the roller rink or skatepark (IN STYLE!).
If you or your giftee skates outdoors then you know the wheels can get super dirty. I don’t know how many times I’ve stained my clothes with street grime when the wheels came into contact as I threw my skates over my shoulder. I bought a skate bag and I don’t have to worry about that ever again. This colorful bag is a budget friendly roller skate themed gift that is certain to have them squealing with joy. You also might want to check out this hot pink zebra print model OR this muted but still colorful option.
Chances are your skater girl is still using the old, boring black helmet and pads from the early days. Maybe it’s time for a colorful upgrade? Thank goodness there is someone out there making female specific helmets and pads. The Triple 8 Roller Skating Helmet comes in 13 different styles and 4 different sizes. With this amount of selection you’re bound to find a color combo to suit your roller skater.
This helmet has thousands of 5 star reviews you can read HERE. I love-love-love this helmet and I think it is hands down THE BEST helmet for roller skating out there on the market today
The overall shape of the helmet is minimalist, it’s very lightweight & the inner material breathes nicely. My personal recommendation is the colorful ombre, gradient helmet (pictured above) which you can find HERE.
As an added bonus you can find matching Triple 8 Pads to go with your colorful female specific helmet! There are 5 different color combos and 4 different sizes to choose from. These pads will work for young girls up to adult women. There are THOUSANDS of 5 star reviews that you can read HERE. You can see them in action below in a short, 1 min Youtube video (and hey…be sure to check out the knee socks!):
These Bont Suede Toe Caps are the colorful and stylish way to protect the toe of your roller skate from being destroyed from contact with rough surfaces. Occasionally, skaters fall or make contact with a rough surface (especially at the skate park) and these toe caps will minimalize the damage to the toe of the boot which can get ground down to a nub. Coming in at under $25 a pair, this is an inexpensive, thoughtful gift for roller skaters. You can also check out a more minimalist, less expensive version HERE from the same company.
The GoPro Hero 10 Black is the latest action sport camera/video camera to be released by GoPro and it’s a unique gift if your roller skater loves to take videos of their roller skating exploits at the skatepark or roller rink to upload to TikTok or Instagram.
It’s jam packed with great features like an LCD touchscreen interface, live streaming capability, automatic upload to the cloud and (just in case) it’s also waterproof to 30+ feet (again…just in case). The huge selection of wide angle shots means that you’ll be able to grab every roller skating moment in view and not miss a thing.
This pocket sized camera can be completely controlled by an app on your phone (or your voice) which cuts down on editing time later. You can create time lapse videos, photo bursts, night videos & the editing software is about as user friendly as it could possibly be.
This is the model that I personally use to shoot all my roller skate videos for the boardwalkskater.com and the capabilities are pretty impressive. If you’re purchasing this gift I’d also recommend this extra long selfie stick and/or this accessory pack which has everything you need to attach your GoPro to anything else! We love the GoPro 8 and it’s definitely one of the best gifts for roller skaters out there!
The Moxi Skate Leash comes in 3 different colors and it’s a cheap, easy to ship gift for roller skaters. It’s an inexpensive way to carry around your skates in style but it’s more for indoor skaters who don’t get a lot of road grime on their wheels. As you can see it would be easy to get anything from your wheels onto that nice shirt. Overall we like this skate bag for carrying potentially dirty skate but this leash will do on a budget.
Protective skate covers are an affordable gift and another way for your favorite skater to customize their skates with their own personal style. There are SO many colors and prints to choose from. I personally like to choose really bright, blacklight reactive colors so that they glow when I go to the skating rink.

Is your roller skater in need of a a serious roller skate upgrade? I’m a hard core Moxi Beach Bunny Roller Skate fan (it’s what I skate on when I’m cruising the boardwalk/trails or skating at the roller rink). I’ve had my leopard print pair for over 10 years now and they’re still going strong. They’re still grabbing tons of compliments and “where can I get those?!?!” type questions while I skate along. Lot’s of girls/women skate on these- I’d say they are the most popular brand out there (and you can probably see why).
The ankle support/padding on these is fantastic and has even improved over the last couple of years. Not only are they comfortable AND a quality product but they look GREAT in all these gorgeous color combinations! The break in time is the shortest I’ve ever experienced and the price is completely reasonable for the quality level. It’s by far, one of the best gift ideas for roller skaters on our list.
If by chance you are interested in finding a great pair of roller skates you might want to check out our Roller Skate Buying Guide HERE for a large selection of skates in many different price ranges.
Many readers land on this page because they are looking for gifts to take to a roller skating party. Bringing in a huge pack of roller skating themed mylar balloons may be the perfect gift or compliment to a smaller roller skating gift idea from earlier on our list. You can buy this mylar balloon pack and take it into a party store (or a grocery store with a floral section) and have them filled with helium the day of the party. This is one of the best gifts for a skater girl!
These Stackable/Buildable Skate Ramps are perfect for those roller skaters who may not have access to a nearby skate park (or just want to practice in the privacy of home). These modular, stacking ramps will allow you to build a small or very large ramp at your own home. They fill with water for stability & are easy to set up. With this system it’s easy to start small and work your way up to something really epic!
The MADD Gear Grind Rail is another perfect addition to the at home skate park. This rail is height adjustable so your you can work your way up to your grind goals. Make sure you install a grind block on your roller skates to make.
This is perfect for the basement | driveway | garage skater who is stuck inside all winter or prefers to hone his or her craft in private before heading to the skate park. Don’t forget to grab some Skate Wax for your skater to use. We really love these rails so it’s one of our best gifts for roller skaters.
Skate Wax is a great gift for regular skate park roller skater. Wax is used on rails, curbs, ledges and benches to help your roller skates glide across more easily while attempting those aggressive tricks. You can also apply it directly to a roller skate grind block to make grinds a lot easier/smoother. This small 4 pack comes in pocket sized pieces that travel easily. At this size and price point it’s perfect for a Christmas stocking stuffer.
If your roller skater is in the learning phase, starting roller derby or is about to hit the ramps and bowls at the local skate park…these crash pants might be a perfect gift. They’re made to go on under your clothes and protect the areas of your body that can see the most contact in a fall like the butt, tailbone and hips. This is by far my favorite roller derby gift idea!
Another item that roller skaters can always use is skate bearings. Bearings do degrade and falter due to moisture or lack of lubrication (I’ve even had brand new ones crap out). A skater should always have an extra box around for such an occasion. I personally recommended Bones REDZ Precision Skate Bearings. They are the perfect choice. These bearings have been trusted by professional AND recreational skaters for years, so you know they’re up to the task. This is a great budget skater gift or stocking stuffer.
Roller skate bearings need to be cleaned and lubricated regularly to get the best performance out them. A bearing cleaning kit is one of my favorite gifts for roller derby players but anyone who skates frequently can use something like this. The kit includes lubricant but you’ll need to purchase bearing cleaner separately.
These Derby Replacement Laces come in 31 different colors & combos and 9 different sizes so you’re bound to find something your roller skater will love. Laces wear out and lose their “grip” (or ability to hold the boot tightness) pretty quickly. I use these VERY PRETTY, waxy laces whenever I need a new set. You’re roller skater will always be in need of a new pair now and then & at at this price point you can afford to pair these with another budget item on our list. For an adult woman shoot for 96 inch laces. For girls roller you’ll need to go smaller…nothing larger than 72 inches.
The Powerdyne Y skate Tool is the all in one fanny pack (or pocket sized) skate tool. I has all of the sockets to adjust any nut on roller skates. The wrench is specifically for adjusting and tightening the brakes which often come loose after lots of use. No skater should leave home without a tool like this on their person. It’s a cheap insurance policy to say the least. The price makes it a practical, Christmas stocking stuffer for roller skaters.
Skate Crazy (by Lou Brooks) is by far my favorite roller skating book. It takes you on a visual history of the hey of roller skating…when over 3,000 roller rinks were constructed across the United States. The graphics are amazing and this is one of my favorite roller skating gifts.
These lightweight, packable yoga shoes are great skating gifts! Lemme explain. Often, skaters have to walk where wearing skates isn’t possible. Like from the parking lot to a paved trail. From the car to the roller rink. Or maybe into walk into a coffee shop or business where skates aren’t allowed. These lightweight slip on shoes will fit in a backpack or fanny pack when not in use so they can go along for the ride. There are lots of colors and patterns to choose from…at this price point it’s a fantastic budget friendly gift.
Derby girls and roller skaters love cool skate accessories like these roller skate themed enamel pins! You can put them on your skate bag, fanny pack or jean jacket to let everyone know that you live and breath roller skating! Here is where you can can find these cool skater girl gifts:
Roller Derby Girl (my peronal favorite)
A Bose Waterproof Speaker Wireless Bluetooth is one of my favorite gifts for skate park skaters or skaters who are practicing their craft in an area where they don’t have tunes. This speaker is waterproof so you can carry it around without fear of damage. It’s compact, lightweight and durable and provides many hours (10-12 hours) of REALLY excellent sound (for the size). You can also pair two speakers together for even more killer sound. It’s the perfect way to get in the zone while practicing. You don’t have to take my word for it, check out the over 15k 4-5 star reviews.
These colorful, Sparkly Roller Skate Replacement Brakes are another budget friendly gift idea for roller skaters. Roller skate brakes wear out quickly- especially if you skate on pavement (I have to replace mine once a year). So as skaters, we can appreciate having our supply cabinet filled with cute, colorful stuff. At this low price point you can afford to pair these with some cute laces or toe caps from earlier in our list.
Impala Replacement Wheels don’t light up like the set early in the list but they are really smooth, soft, sparkly roller skate wheels. I used them in the past on my roller skates and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. They are so buttery smooth outdoors and they really punch up the look of any roller skate boot (just look how COOL these wheels look). Every roller skater wears out wheels on the regular (especially if they skate outdoors) so purchasing your roller skater’s next set is a thoughtful way to say I support you and this crazy roller skating thing you’re into.
This gift in on the budget side of the price scale and because they’re so awesome we think it’s probably one of the best gifts for roller skaters out there. If this item is out of stock (which happens) check out our other favorite Sure Grip Wheels.
I do NOT leave the house without my Road ID on my wrist. Roller skating is a somewhat risky sport and if we were to ever be seriously injured would paramedics know who to call? Would they know about any allergies or serious medical conditions?
My Road ID bracelet has my allergy and husband’s contact information so if I’m not alert, the paramedics or the hospital staff knows who to call and what NOT to dose me with. I think everyone who takes part in solo sports like roller skating should be wearing one of these bracelets at all times. They come in cool colors, multiple widths, they’re comfortable & indiscreet. I think this makes a thoughtful & unique customized gift because you can even add a special message for your favorite roller skater! Can I make a suggestion? SKATING IS LIFE!
I know you’re gonna call me crazy but fanny packs are BACK! But did they ever really leave…really? Looks aside a fanny pack is far and away the most comfortable way to keep the essentials on your person as a roller skater. The fanny pack won’t get in the way of moving your arms and it won’t throw your weight off like a backpack can. I use one any many other roller skaters do too.
Be sure to pick up a cool looking BUT compact sized pack like this 8.0″ x 2.5″ x 4.3″ option from Amazon in 28 different colors. I also like the sizing and storage ability on this North Face Fanny Pack.
These Oakley Frogskin Sunglasses are what I personally use when I’m out skating (and I love them). They are on trend with the styles of this year, they’re really light weight (I can barely even tell that that are on) and they protect your eyes from harmful rays like they should. Your roller skater will get tons of use out of a nice pair of quality shades which makes them one of our best gifts for roller skaters!
Roller skaters LOVE these female specific pony tail baseball caps. There is a special opening to allow for a high pony tail to stay in place. This one is fun because you can add a custom message like:
“I only date guys who skate”
“talk derby to me”
“make America skate again”
“this is how I roll”
If you aren’t super clever with the turn of phrase and just want a cool ponytail cap you can check out this large color selection of colorful ponytail caps. This is another budget friendly gift idea on our list.
Roller skaters are always hydrating so if your giftee doesn’t have some way to stay hydrated on the go…may I suggest the Hydroflask? These Hydroflasks keep water and beverages cold (or hot) and this model is pretty compact. They come in a ton of colors so you’ll easily be able to find something your roller skater loves. This item is also on the budget friendly end of the cost spectrum.
This Rosie the Roller Derby Girl T-shirt is an awesome gift for a roller derby girl…but all skaters can appreciate this comfy tank top. If you’re looking for great presents for roller skaters (that won’t break the budge)- this is a cool one!
Roller skate cones are fantastic for skill building on your roller skates. You can practice skating on your edges, slalom and more complex dance and jam skating moves. They’re also great for setting up roller skate games like races and skill challenges. These are great gifts for rollerbladers, roller skaters, kids and adults.
Foam Leg Rollers are great gifts for roller skater and inline skaters alike. We really work our legs to the bone so having some recovery tools is a must! Leg rollers offer deep tissue massage benefits, including increased circulation, improved flexibility, and reduced muscle soreness.
They’re a cost-effective more accessible alternative to professional massages, allowing a skater to target specific areas of discomfort. Best of all your skater will have faster muscle recovery, making foam rollers a valuable recovery tool. This foam leg roller comes in several colors to to suit just about anyone’s taste.
A Sport Balance Board is used to improve overall balance and stability, which can help roller skated with muscle development and perform advanced maneuvers on their skates. A balance board allows a roller skaters or rollerbladers to practice maintaining their balance and control.
Balance boards also help skaters to strengthen muscles and ligaments, in their legs and feet, which can improve their overall performance, endurance all while reducing injury. Additionally, balance board training can help skaters to improve muscle memory and coordination.
I personally use a balance board for at least an hour at my standing desk at work and I also hop on it in front of the TV in the evenings to keep my skills sharp. It’s a good idea for skaters or inlines who can’t skate as regularly as they would like OR for off season training.
If you’ve made it all the way to the bottom of our list and haven’t found anything your roller skater will love….we still have some suggestions! Consider purchasing a gift card to your skater’s favorite roller rink. If your roller skater is at the beginning of their skate journey you may want to purchase skating lessons (call your local roller rink for information about lessons).
I hope you enjoyed our gift guide of best gifts for roller skater! As a skater girl, I personally would love receiving any of these gifts so I’m confident that you’ve left here with some awesome gift ideas for your favorite roller skater!
